Alytus cultural heritage object -Jewish sinagoga - was built in 1911. It is beautiful brick-built building designed in Saint-Petersbourg manner, having very colorful and rich history. During soviet occupation the building was used as salt warehouse, so it is severely damaged from inside.
Sinagoga is very important for our city, because most of pre-war buildings in Alytus were wooden and were lost during WW2, so sinagoga is very important part of our architectural history and we would like to return it to public life.
We would like to turn old building of Jewish sinagoga into public space for cultural needs and hope that project will help us to find the best idea to make the derelict building into attraction centre for citizens and tourists. In the future it could become a success example for other projects.
We are looking for coordinanor (research company) for our project or we would like to join existing project.
